Domain TXT Records

Domain TXT records are a type of DNS entry that stores arbitrary text data associated with a domain. Initially intended as a space for administrators to leave notes, their purpose has expanded significantly. Today, TXT records serve as a flexible container for machine-readable data, supporting a range of security protocols and verification processes. They can contain information such as email authentication policies, domain ownership proofs, and even configuration details for various services. This adaptability makes TXT records a vital component of a domain’s digital footprint, offering both opportunities and challenges for security management.

Analyze Domain TXT Records

  1. Go to Attack Surface Mapping > Digital Footprint for Domain > Domain TXT Records.

  2. Enter the domain name you wish to analyze (e.g., example.com).

  3. (Optional) Define when the TXT record was first or last observed to focus on recent changes or historical data.

  4. Alternatively, check Last 24 Hours to limit results to records observed within the past day.

  5. (Optional) Choose a sorting preference (e.g., by date or record type) to organize the output for easier analysis.

  6. Click Search. This initiates the search to retrieve the domain’s TXT records, which will be displayed for further examination.

The results provide a detailed view of the domain’s TXT records, including their content, timestamps, and associated metadata. This data can reveal security configurations, potential misconfigurations, or signs of unauthorized activity.
