PADNS Pivot Guide

Prev Next

Silent Push is a powerful reconnaissance platform that enables security researchers and threat hunters to efficiently pivot on DNS records. By combining active resolution with historical data, it allows users to quickly map relationships between domains and IP addresses — uncovering connected infrastructure that might otherwise remain hidden.

This guide demonstrates two primary methods to perform DNS pivoting on the platform, starting from either a domain name or an IP address.

Method 1: Using the Total View Feature

  • On the landing page, enter the target domain into the search bar and select Total View.

  • Navigate to the PA DNS (Passive Active DNS) tab.

  • Any data highlighted in blue is interactive — click it and choose PA DNS to pivot.

  • For an A record, select the reverse A record lookup option to find all other domains pointing to the same IP address.

  • Results include useful metadata: First Seen and Last Seen timestamps for each connection.

Method 2: Using the Reconnaissance Module

  • Go to the Reconnaissance tab and select DNS.

  • Directly enter the domain or IP address in the search field.

  • Perform the same reverse A record lookup to retrieve identical results showing connected domains and their connection history.

Both methods deliver the same powerful capability — rapidly expanding visibility from a single domain or IP to its full associated infrastructure.
